I often work with twenty-somethings who are sorting out relationships and wanting to choose wisely because they know that their happiness for the rest of their lives depends on it.

One young woman said to me, “Being true to anyone else should not mean NOT being true to yourself.” What a gift for such a young woman to recognize that if she had to choose between either her needs OR his needs even before they got married, it was probably not the healthiest choice for her. I celebrate her having the courage to choose what is healthy instead of what is easy.
